Winter in the Mountains

We will never forget an afternoon in the mountains of the Peloponnese when, weary from hours on the road, we stopped at a roadside taverna for a late lunch. We sat down to a meal of chicken, slow cooked with homemade hilopittes (pasta that we will make) in a rich tomato sauce, and sides of char-grilled greens, feta saganaki (pan-fried) and seasonal vegetable dishes. For dessert we’ll bake a rich, syrupy walnut cake and pair it with a thick, local yogurt. We invite you to recreate this warming meal on a winter’s day here in the hills of central Victoria. The meal will be paired with wines of regional Greece.
